Two Questions All Voters MUST Ask Themselves

I have written emails or letters to my legislators and to all of the presidential candidates to see what they think about states right vs. the rights of the federal government. I have given them an historical quote and asked them two important questions. No child should leave school without knowing the answer to these two questions. No voter should enter the voting booth without know this part of American history. No political candidate should be able to take office without being aware of this quote and knowing the answer to these two questions. All responsible parents should give their children this quote from Jefferson and ask them these two questions.

In my blog next week I will answer the questions I pose. I say to my readers that I want the issue to sink down into your souls. I want you to dwell on this for awhile.

Below is the content of the letter I have written to all of my legislators. No one has yet replied to my letter. If someone does, I will include their replies, no matter whether I agree with them or not:

Dear Sir or Ma’am,

I would like to give you a quote from Thomas Jefferson, and then ask you two questions. Your answer will be included in my web site, www.rehoboth-news.com. To facilitate my ability to include your answer, please reply by email to oasis@inbox.com .

HERE IS THE QUOTE:
“With respect to our state and federal governments, I do not think their relations correctly understood by foreigners. They generally suppose the former subordinate to the latter. But this is not the case. They are co-ordinate departments of one simple and integral whole. To the state governments are reserved all legislation administration, in affairs which concern their own citizens only, and to the federal government is given whatever concerns foreigners, or the citizens of other states; these functions alone being made federal. The one is the domestic, the other the foreign branch of the same government; neither having control over the other, but within its own department.”
~ from Thomas Jefferson’s letter to Major John Cartwright, June 5th, 1824. This quote is not in dispute. It is found, as one example, on page 1493 of “Jefferson Writings”, put out by the Library of America in 1984. Library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 83-19917 ISBN 0-940450-16-x

QUESTION ONE:
What Constitutional amendment(s) changed our government structures from what it was then to what it is now? Please include in your explanation Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution and the 9th and 10th Amendments.

QUESTION TWO:
What is the federal government’s current legitimate role in our government structure, and what is the state’s role, according to the US Constitution?

Thank you.

Cordially,

Mr. Terry Haines

The Sovereignty of God

HERE is a story about the sovereignty of God that I learned today in Sunday School. I wanted to share it with you:

There once was a poor farmer who had almost nothing. His wife died, and all he had left was his son and his horse. The horse got out of his corral and was lost.

The neighbors came to him and said, “You poor man. What a bad thing has happened to you.”

The farmer said, “Don’t say that. We don’t know what God is doing.”

Two days later, the horse returned with three horses. Now the farmer had four horses and his wealth was beginning to return.

The neighbors came to him and said, “You are a fortunate man. What a good thing has happened to you.”

The farmer said, “Don’t say that. We don’t know what God is doing.”

The next day, the farmers son was in the process of breaking one of the new horses, was thrown from the horse and broke his leg.

The neighbors came to him and said, “You poor man. What a bad thing has happened to you.”

The farmer said, “Don’t say that. We don’t know what God is doing.”

Soon, the king of the country came to the village where the poor farmer was, and began taking the young men from each family to go away to a war. Most of these young people would never return, as they would be killed in the war. But the farmer’s son was not taken because he had a broken leg.

The farmer believed that God was powerful enough to change all of the circumstances in his life. He believed that God was good all the time. He believed that God was wise enough to make nothing but beneficial choices for him.

So the question is, what is a good thing?

A good thing is that which will result in our good God being glorified. The farmer did a good thing by trusting and obeying God even when he did not understand His ways.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
~ Romans 8:28-29
